Blasphemy Disguised as Art – Where Do You Stand?

The recent decision to cast Cynthia Erivo—a Black, Catholic, queer-identifying woman—as Jesus Christ (He/Him) in the upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar production at the Hollywood Bowl isn’t just another bold theatrical move—it’s a direct act of blasphemy.

Let’s be clear: this portrayal twists the true nature of our Savior and attempts to normalizes sin under the banner of “inclusivity.”

But before I dive into how you, as a Christian, can defend the biblical truth, I want to address something—especially to those who claim to be “super spiritual religious folks” and are quick to hit the block button.

That’s exactly what you shouldn’t be doing!

Here’s why:

  1. This kind of blasphemy isn’t going anywhere—it’s only going to escalate. And unless you plan on leaving this world, you’re going to face it head-on.
  2. We are called to be light in the darkness, not light among ourselves. Hiding won’t cut it. The Bible mandates us to defend our Christian values and the truth of who Jesus is.

So, here’s how to stand up—or will you stay silent while the world distorts Christ?

Defending the Deity of Jesus Christ

Scripture is crystal clear—Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is not designated as the “daughter of God” or “mother of God” but Son of God.

Jesus being born as a biological man wasn’t random—it was God’s deliberate design (Galatians 4:4-5). Any deviation from this truth distorts His gender identity, priestly role (Hebrews 7:24-25), and His identity as the Son sent by the Father.

This is majorly offensive and will not be silently accepted by us.

The Agenda to Normalize Homosexuality

This casting choice is part of a wider agenda—one that was previously classified as a mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Yes, homosexuality was classified under the DSM-II until 1973 as a mental disorder (legacy media won’t tell you), and now this agenda seeks to normalize this self-destructive and societally harmful behavior that the Bible clearly condemns as sinful.

Here’s what’s truly frightening:

There are Christians—far beyond just liberals, charismatics too—who actually believe the “gay gene” is normal, in the name of “love” and the idea of being “born this way.” Talking about renewed mindsets!

This mindset starkly reveals how profoundly secularized the church has become, doesn’t it?

By selecting an actress (He/She) who openly identifies with the LGBTQ+ community to portray Jesus, the production is aggressively advancing a narrative that annihilates the biblical truth of sexuality and holiness.

It is systematically eroding the sanctity of life and the very fabric of society by promoting values that directly defy God’s divine design.

This is not just a distortion of truth—it is a bold, deliberate attack on the foundation of all that is righteous, pure, and good. What our civilization has been built upon and preserved by.

Listen, you’re free to identify however you choose, but why drag your personal beliefs into something as sacred as faith? What is your aim here? To provoke? To incite? This is utterly sickening!

Hollywood, which has recently been burned to the ground, has clearly been grooming this puppet actress, including many others, who shine from the outside but within… well, I’ll leave that for you to decide… to play in controversial roles that promote an agenda contradicting the values upheld by Christians.

Why Jesus?

Jesus is revered as the sinless Son of God, our perfect Savior, and the ultimate model of righteousness and purity.

To portray Him through the lens of a lifestyle that Scripture condemns is not only a blatant distortion of His holiness and divinity, but an outright assault on the very essence of who He is.

It is insulting to our faith, an open attack on Christianity. Why not target Hinduism, Islam, or Atheism?

Why Jesus? Haha… you know why.

That’s why you hate Him so badly.

So, how can a Biblical Christian respond?

First, it’s important to understand the difference between a “Christian” and a “Biblical Christian.”

Essentially, a Christian is someone who believes in God and lives like the devil, while a Biblical Christian thinks like God and strives to live a righteous life, seeking holiness in every aspect of life.

I consider myself a Biblical Christian, and one way to verify that is the fact that I am making a stance publicly against an assault on our faith, which most don’t do publicly. I realize that silence is complicity, and if I don’t fill the moral void, Satan will! So, what will you do?

A Biblical Response for Christians

  1. Stand Firm in the Truth
Know what you believe, not just what your church teaches. Understand biblical doctrine and affirm the unshakable truth of Scripture, resisting the ever-increasing cultural pressure to conform.
    • 1 Corinthians 16:13: “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
  2. Expose and Reject Blasphemy
Do not support, tolerate, or endorse works that mock or misrepresent our faith. Watching these films isn’t just passive—it’s actively supporting the enemy’s agenda. Protect your soul and guard your children against these evils.
    • Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
  3. Pray for Repentance
Intercede for those involved in such productions, asking God to open their eyes to the truth. We are at war with evil, working through deceived individuals, including many who call themselves Christians.
    • 2 Timothy 2:25: “In humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth.”
  4. Educate Others
Dogma is not doctrine. It’s crucial to inform fellow believers about the dangers of distorted portrayals of Jesus. Yes, Jesus preached grace—but He also preached truth. Stand firm in both.
    • Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
  5. Live Out Holiness
Be an example of holiness in all things, reflecting Christ’s character in every area of your life. True, Jesus wants us to live well, but hedonism is rife in the church. The world is watching—let your conduct be a testimony of your faith.
    • 1 Peter 1:15-16: “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.'”
  6. Engage in Constructive Dialogue
When the opportunity arises, stand your ground. This means be silent when you must, and speak up when you should! Speak the truth with love, clarity, and conviction. This is how we win souls for Christ and expose the lies of the enemy.
    • Colossians 4:6: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
  7. Trust in God’s Sovereignty
Don’t be discouraged by the enemy’s tactics. God is in control, and His truth will always prevail in the end.
    • Proverbs 19:21: “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.”

The casting of Cynthia Erivo as Jesus Christ is outright blasphemy, a calculated attack on the truth of who our Savior is. This attempt to normalize sin and distort the true nature of Christ must be met with unwavering commitment to biblical truth.

We must stand firm, not shrink back in fear, but boldly confront this evil with prayer, conviction, and the unshakeable truth of Scripture.
